CLOTHING JOURNALS

I usually travel with one piece of clothing that needs repair, mending of some sort, embellishment, this acts as a travel journal, as a piece of wearable art, a reminder of a time and place. Clothing journals are also the way a piece travels from being one thing to another. Sometimes the voyage takes place in the studio, other times while on the road. It often involves using what is on hand. Of course during the pandemic there was no outward travel, only the inward journey which led to many transformations of things I had on hand. The jumpsuit below was created through the instructions on line from the Rational Dress Society. I decided on using old indigo dyed kimono lengths that I had purchased over 20 years ago. I carefully saved all the leftovers and incorporated those into a patchwork jacket. I had an old Chinese work jacket that was very worn. I used that as the base for the embellished jacket.
