RAG RUGS- wool +Cotton

These wool rag floor rugs (left) are made with remnants and waste from the Pendleton Woolen mills in Portland OR. It has been great fun to “treasure hunt” through the bins of cast off wool scraps from their blankets and garments. These are woven on a Seine twine cotton warp. Even more fun than weaving these has been sharing the process with family.

The cotton rag rugs below and left are made from reclaimed fabric-painted sheets and found materials. For the patterned rugs I rip the painted or patterned fabric in order to reconstruct the patterns on the loom.

My longstanding love of using what you have and transforming something worn out to give it new life is part of a long tradition of rag rugs in many different communities.
