Quilts are at the foundation of my love for textiles. I am including some quilts that are in process now and some I made for my children when they were born. I had been collecting 50's prints from Associated American Artists and these quilts combined my desire to make something intricate and special for each of them while using these wonderful 1950’s prints. I identify with the Hmong idea of protection through ornament, that symbolically a very involved piece distracts the bad omens or spirits. This primal or primitive piece lives on in me as I create things for the people in my life. Quilt patterns appear and influence my collages, rugs and drawings and so I have included a log cabin quilt that I started when I was a child, as well as an embroidered quilt that I began as a teenager and finished for one of my daughters. Quilts are the container of our stories through fabric.
